After relocating to Vernon, Texas, in 2015, she teamed up with her husband and other visionaries who shared her passion for public service to seek solutions to improve and bring awareness to inequalities in rural communities that affect minorities. Dr. Ketra wholeheartedly believes, “When you live in a community, there should be a handprint of your work left behind for future generations.”
She launched the North Vernon Women’s Community Bible Study group in 2015 to bridge the gap and bring together a diverse group of women to improve the family dynamic in underserved communities. In 2016, she assisted in organizing a community project to
clean up abandoned properties and improve local Senior citizen homes for community beautification. Her community involvement in Vernon included hosting annual Spiritual Awakening conferences and leadership seminars, serving as a Salvation Army Board member and Wilbarger County Precinct Chair, and volunteering her time with other local churches and businesses. In 2019, Dr. Ketra, alongside her husband, Pastor King, successfully renamed a street in the North Vernon community to Dr. Martin Luther King Street.
Pastor King and Dr. Ketra are devoted and committed leaders in their local community and the Full Gospel Fellowship Church.
Her other civic duties include being a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Jack and Jill of America (Associate member), and Dallas County Sexual Assault Coalition. These organizations promote a foundation of public service and leadership.
